November Blog

This past month I've been going to my mentorship, with my mom at A&R Creations. During our interview she told me that around this time business started going up because many people started to go in to start new contracts for the upcoming year. At first I didn't believe her because it would make sense that business went down with all the holiday spending but I've seen that transaction of business change during this whole month and I've gotten much more practice of dealing with families planning a quince.

Blog 9: EQ

I reviewed the rule of three for writing an EQ
a.What is the most important factor in healthy weight loss ? This EQ would be more efficient if we were told who they were targeting and how that person planned doing so.
b.What is most important factor to securing a conviction in a criminal investigation? Including more detail into the EQ would make it easier to work with and to understand. Try to include what the crime was, who did the crime and where it took place.
c.What is most important in creating a hairstyle that best satisfies a customer? Since trends change it would be helpful to include the year. Also, what age group you are targeting and the occasion it is you are creating the hairstyle for.
d.How can an Anesthesiologist best treat chronic pain? We need to know what part of the body is being treated. Alos, the treatment process you plan on using.

Blog 8: Research and Working EQ

1.  What is your working EQ?
"How can a Mexican-American family throw a successful contemporary quince while honoring your traditions."

2.  What is a possible answer to your working EQ? Please write the answer in thesis format.
  • Take the quinceanera to all the planning, this way the parent and daughter compromise.
  • Research the traditions and also know what you want for your party.

3.  What is the most important source you have used that has helped you come up with an answer to your working EQ?
The most important source I've used is my mom, Rosy Nunez who was my summer mentor. Going along with her to work she showed me what people asked for and what the meaning to everything was.

4.  Who is your mentor, or where are you volunteering, and how does what you are doing relate to your working EQ?
I am volunteering with my mom, Rosy Nunez at A&R Creations. I get to work with people and try to reach their needs. Many times families are looking for some tradition in their party.

Independent Component 1 Approval

1. Describe in detail what you plan to do for your 30 hours. For my 30 hours i have two options the first one is finding an even planner, hopefully they have a quince coming up so i can go with them to most of the preparation like meeting with clients and finding out what they want. If i cant get in contact with someone i can do that with i will go to a party hall and help them arrange everything needed for a quince.

2. Discuss how or what you will do to meet the expectation of showing 30 hours of evidence. I will show proof by taking pictures of the whole process, if i can i also plan on getting a contract from the hall owner.

3. And explain how what you will be doing will help you explore your topic in more depth. By doing this i will have a feel for what event planning is. If i can get an event planner to work with it will show me everything because she helps the family stay on budget starting with the dress to what they will serve, while working with a hall worries more about the day of the event.

Setting up

About a couple weeks ago I accompanied my mentor to the house of a quceanera, that day she was there to set up before all the guest arrived. It took us about 3 hours because we had to set up the table and chairs and set everything up. These are pictures of the final product.

Blog 5: Project Reflection and Working EQ

The Pentagon:
(1) Positive Statement: What positive thing happen as a result of what you have completed so far?
A positive thing that has happened to me is that i have learned so much more information that i hadn't learned at my mentorship but now i can go and ask her about things more in depth.

(2) EQ Content:  Pick a piece of research or your interview.  How has it helped you improve your understanding of your topic?
The piece of research that has helped me in the basic traditions. That article taught me some of the basic things i should know if i plan on giving other people the correct information about a quince.

(3) What has worked for you so far in the senior project?
One of the things that has worked for me are the research deadlines. Without them i know i wouldn't be doing my research but with this i know i have to do the work.

(4) What hasn't worked so far?
What hasn't worked for me is successfully finding an interviewee, i've tried getting in contact with many people but they just don't return my calls.
(5) Finding Value:

  • What is a potential question you would like to study this year?  (working EQ)
    • One EQ i think i would follow through with is "How can i have a successful Quince?"
  •  What do you plan to do for mentorship?  If you haven't found a mentor yet, then discuss where you are currently looking and who you are talking to to find it.
    • I have a mentorship with my mom, she has a business that sells all of the things needed for a quince like the dress, bible, limos and more! I want to try to get another one at a event planning business.

Blog 4: Interview Preparation

1.  Who do you plan to interview?  Why?
I plan on interviewing an event planner i have the card of the person but she doesn't have a location i can visit at. If i cant interview her I'm going to interview my mom because she deals with a lot of families planning a quince. My mom provides the options of selling a dress and all the necessities.
2.  You have to ask 5 questions.  What additional questions do you plan to ask?  Ask open-ended questions.
1. What made you go into this field? Any particular moment when you knew this is what you wanted to do?
2. Do you only take one kind of costumers? For example do you only do quinces, weddings, ect?
3. What months do you get the most business? Why do you think those months are so high?
4. What are the trends of the season? Is there anything you always see repeated like traditions, themes?
5. On average how many events do you plan a year? Whats the lowest and highest number of events you've had?

Blog 3: Topic Choice and Semester 1 ESLR Goals

1.  List your topic here:
Quince Planning

2.  What do you plan to do this year to show growth in each of the ESLRs?  Be specific and use an example.  Examples can come from senior project, model assembly, core, and/or participation in senior class ASB or other organizations on campus (clubs etc).

  •  Ipoly Citizen: I plan to be a good citizen of ipoly by showing up on time to classes so i wont make the whole class fall behind. I will also respect all my peers opinions. I plan on joining many committees  to make sure we have a great senior year.
  • Effective learner: To be an effective learner i am going to use my time effectively, i will turn in all my work on time, and always come to class with all the materials i will need for that day.
  • Effective user of technology: I will make sure to use the internet to my advantage, i will look for the best possible sources in order to have correct information on my topic. I will check the senior blog daily and also my email.
  • Effective communicator: I will listen to my peers without interrupting them and i will share information with them as well.

Blog 2: Summer Mentorship Component

1. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjoGsbnmgJgsdFhkX3NvdTZiR3UyUEhZdi0wTkNWUkE#gid=0

2. Rosy Nunez: (909)993-2530

3. What does it take to run a business?
What are the most important aspects of planning a quince?

4. The most important thing i learned from this experience was to be patient because many times clients come in and stay hours after closing time but you have to be able to have the patience to keep helping them even when you might have something to do later, so you just have to learn that its's not about you but the client even if they are difficult to work with.

5. I think working with my mom really didnt help me choose a topic because im confused about how to follow on i dont know if i want to do my project on running a business or on party planning.

2. A question i have about the senior project is how does the timing work because most presentations i saw were not 2 hours long.

3. I think the most important part of the senior project is the EQ and where you do your mentorship.

4. I am somewhat considering on doing some sort of party planning because my mom has a store where she sells all the stuff needed for a wedding or sweet 16.
